In San Diego, Calif., a drill sergeant means business. Drill Sergeants are said to have the most difficult of tours. As our bus pulled into the base, a sign told us what kind of day it was: Green. It meant low threat of terrorism.

She was standing right where I wanted her to, in alignment with the swings and Milford water tower. I said "Don't move." She didn't.
