The Missouri Valley, Iowa Editor and I had a good time with this one. I started it by commenting on a contest during one of Missouri Valley's celebrations - Spaghetti Sucking. Is that a family fun event, I asked. Then I found out Beaver Crossing was holding a Watermelon Seed-Spitting Contest. Needless to say, the daily e-mails between the editor and I lasted a solid month over spaghetti sucking and seed-spitting.

I was between softball games and walked across the street to see the teams practicing. This bunch was having a lot of fun, even if they were supposed to be practicing. I shot a couple photos. They saw me and really acted up. Finally, I asked them to come together.

Two firemen are a little too enthusiastic from winning the water fights at Milford Fun Days. A keg is placed on a rope and a team of two or three firemen on each side use their hoses to shoot the keg to the other side, a little like tug-of-war.

They were so cute, these little ones from the neighboring child care center, performing for Milford Senior Center following a luncheon.

His granddaughter, a member of the Milford Junior Auxiliary Unit 171, watches as her grandfather blows out the candles to celebrate the American Legion's birthday. He would become Vice Commander of the local Legion, and make a plea for more members, an area this Legion needs to fill.

They were seniors and I needed to take a photo for the Fall Sports Section. Two dance team girls. I said, "Pose how you want to." This is what they gave me.

The boys held onto their poultry tightly. I wondered if they were going to hurt them, but the boys seemed to know what they were doing.

It hadn't rained for so long. The photo was taken in early August, right before a Friends of the Library Summer Book Fair, which moved inside because of the rain. But these girls didn't care. And after watching them, I didn't care either.

I waited. It was the last day of school. I thought, 'Now, I'm going to get a good shot.' It's an okay shot. But the look on his face says it all.
